Meshi Zahav is more than a true-crime docuseries — it is a purposeful act of social change. From its premiere on Kan 11 to its acquisition by Netflix Israel, the four-part series was designed to drive a national reckoning around sexual violence, complicity, and institutional silence within Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community.

Through a coordinated impact campaign, the project set out to create safe spaces for survivors to speak, amplify investigative journalism as a tool for justice, and pressure institutions to take responsibility. These strategic efforts have led to measurable outcomes: three additional sexual predators — including two prominent rabbis and one member of parliament — have been detained and questioned. For years, these individuals continued to harm unchecked, but the campaign’s survivor-centered initiatives and public engagement helped empower victims, collect testimonies, and advance legal action.

The campaign deliberately works to shift the national conversation around power and accountability. It engages religious, political, and media institutions through targeted outreach, survivor-led panels, and educational screenings, in collaboration with organizations focused on gender-based violence, religious reform, and press freedom.

By exposing how reverence and silence enabled systemic abuse and by ensuring that exposure leads to reform, Meshi Zahav transforms storytelling into sustained action, empowering new voices and advancing a culture of justice and transparency in Israeli society.

Meshi Zahav campaign directly contributes to global efforts for justice, equality, and institutional accountability.
